The Empty Quarter's vast desert is a nature reserve in its own right, with sand dunes housing species that thrive in the desert habitat. Explore it by camping or “glamping” at Khazaf, Hashman, and Burkana— a landscape of ancient fossils and one of the must-visit places. Take a trek to Fossil Rock (Geode), which is 40 million years old, and enjoy the silence of the desert while gazing at the stars. Remember that you will come back from this tour without any negative energy, and that is a great achievement
DAY 1: SALALAH - TAQAH - JABAL SAMHAN
Day starts at 09:00 AM.
- Sultan Qaboos Mosque (30 Minutes): The biggest mosque in Dhofar, welcoming thousands of visitors for prayers each day since its completion in 2009.
- Al Baleed Archaeological Site (30 Minutes): A 12th-century trading port of Zafar, where frankincense was shipped to India in exchange for spices. Visit the on-site Museum of the Frankincense Land (30 Minutes).
- Coconut and Banana Plantations (20 Minutes): Taste sugar bananas and drink fresh coconut juice.
- Old Sultan Qaboos Palace Photo Stop (10 Minutes): A great spot to capture the main gate, clock tower, and the blue dome of the mosque with the external garden.
- Frankincense Old Souq (45 Minutes): Experience the aroma of frankincense and perfumes, shop, and enjoy negotiations with local vendors.
- Traditional Dhofari Lunch (1.5 Hours): Enjoy Camel meat or grilled chicken with rice, salad, and vegetables.
- Taqah Village & Beach (15 Minutes): A picturesque stop before visiting Taqah Castle (30 Minutes), built in the 19th century.
- Khor Rori – Sumharam Archaeological Site (45 Minutes): Ruins of an ancient city from the 3rd century BCE, a major port in the Silk Road era.
- Gravity Point (20 Minutes): A mysterious spot where cars move uphill in neutral gear.
- Ain Hasheer Water Spring & Baobab Trees (45 Minutes): See 47 baobab trees and hike to a 160-year-old giant baobab.
- Jabal Samhan Sunset & Camping: Enjoy the breathtaking sunset at 1310m, followed by dinner and overnight camping
DAY 2: JABAL SAMHAN - THUMRIT - EMPTY QUARTER - KHAZAF DUNES
Day starts at 6:30 AM.
- Jabal Samhan Panoramic View (20 Minutes).
- Teeq Cave (25 Minutes): A massive canyon-like cave.
- Tawi Ateer Sinkhole (20 Minutes): One of the world’s deepest sinkholes (155m wide and 211m deep).
- Wadi Darbat & Waterfalls (40 Minutes): A lush valley with waterfalls and free-roaming camels.
- Lunch at Thumrit Village (1.5 Hours).
- Lost City of Ubar (30 Minutes): An ancient city discovered by satellite in 1992.
- Off-road Drive to Empty Quarter Desert (40 Minutes).
- Khazaf Dunes: Dune bashing (20 Minutes) and sunset view.
- Camping, dinner, and overnight stay at Khazaf Dunes.
DAY 3: KHAZAF – HASHMAN – BURKANA DUNES – EMPTY QUARTER LODGE
Day starts at 06:30 AM.
- Sunrise at Khazaf Dunes & Breakfast.
- Desert Crossing to Hashman Dunes (1.5 Hours): Search for 40-million-year-old Geode Crystal Volcanic Rocks.
- Dune Bashing & Lunch Break.
- Desert crossing to Burkana 2 (45 Minutes).
- Arrival at Empty Quarter Lodge: A fixed camp with a natural water spring.
- Lunch, relaxation, swimming in a natural pool, and overnight stay at Empty Quarter Lodge.
DAY 4: EMPTY QUARTER LODGE – SALALAH - FAZAYEH BEACH
Day starts at 06:30 AM.
- Sunrise & Breakfast, followed by a drive to Salalah (2.5 Hours).
- Wadi Dawkah (30 Minutes): A UNESCO-listed frankincense forest with over 5,000 trees.
- Lunch in Salalah City (1.5 Hours).
- Zig-Zag Road Panoramic View (10 Minutes).
- Fazayeh Beach (3-4 Hours): A 5-km white sand beach with crystal-clear water, ideal for swimming.
- Camping, dinner, and overnight stay at Fazayeh Beach.
DAY 5: FAZAYEH BEACH – MUGHSAIL BEACH - SALALAH CITY
Day starts at 06:30 AM.
- Secret Beach Panoramic View (15 Minutes).
- Marnif Cave & Blow Holes (30 Minutes): Witness natural seawater jets.
- Mughsail Beach (30 Minutes): A stunning 4km white sandy beach.
- Lunch in Salalah City (1.5 Hours).
- Departure transfer to Salalah Airport.
